Frequently Asked Questions
"I may have missed it somewhere, but what is the attire for the celebration?"
You sure did, but that's ok. Attire is cocktail or "beach formal" (which is apparently a thing). It's July in NYC, so it could be hot and we'd prefer if everyone is comfortable. That said... no jeans, you heathens.
"Will I be far from the venue if I stay in Manhattan?"
Not likely. It's a big city and traffic happens, so no guarantees, but in general it's an easy venue to get to from any point in the city below Central Park. Staying on the south or west sides of Manhattan will allow easy access to the Battery Tunnel, which connects Lower Manhattan and South Brooklyn (spits out in Red Hook, near the venue). Staying on the east side of Manhattan will likely mean you're taking the Brooklyn or Manhattan bridge, both of which are only a 10-20 minute drive to the venue after arriving in Brooklyn.
"Can I bring my kid(s)?"
First, we love your kid(s). They're really great. But we also want you to be able to have a good time and not be required to babysit throughout the party. If finding a sitter isn't an option, your children are more than welcome – but we can't promise the events (and behaviors of other guests) will be kid-friendly after a certain hour... let's say 9:00pm.
"Will there be a wedding ceremony?"
No. We'll be having a small, private ceremony just prior to the party. There will be very few interruptions to the celebration.
"Will transportation be provided to the event or the after party?"
For the event, no. With people staying all over the city (since hotel blocks in NYC are conveniently no less than a million dollars), providing a bus to the venue from a single or multiple locations would inevitably lead to inconveniences for everyone involved. Our suggestion would be to Uber/Lyft to the event location, and allow yourself plenty of time in case traffic is bad (1 hour if coming from Midtown Manhattan, for example).
For the after party, we will be providing transportation. It will be at a bar about 1.5 miles from Strong Rope Brewery, so not easily walkable. After the after party, you're on your own...
"I'm a local and driving to the event. Is there parking?"
Unfortunately there's no designated lot for guests at the brewery. There is street parking in the Red Hook area, however.
"Sometimes I get hungry. Will there be food?"
Yes, plenty of food. We'll have a food truck churning out delicious pizzas throughout the night, as well as a few surprises arriving at various points in the evening. For those attending the after party, late night snacks will be provided there, as well.
"Sometimes I get thirsty. Will there be drinks?"
Yes, there will be an open bar at Strong Rope that includes a large selection of their award-winning beers, local wines, and local spirits from Van Brunt Distillery. Various mixers will be available, as well as a signature cocktail or two, and a selection of non-alcoholic beverages.
At the after party (11:00 to ???), there will be a cash bar.
"Sometimes I dance. Will there be music?"
Yes. In addition to Blake's signature beatboxing, we'll have a live band and some electrifying house music when they're taking breaks.
"Are there any special precautions I should take in case it rains?"
The venue has both indoor and outdoor space, the latter of which we won't be using if it's raining. You will have access to safe harbor from the conditions at all times, with the exception of the short walk from the nearest street to the venue's entrance. If rain is in the forecast we would suggest bringing an umbrella just in case.
"I'm arriving a few days early and want to watch the fireworks. Any suggestions?"
The 4th of July fireworks show (on the Hudson River for 2024) is as spectacular as it is chaotic. Without going into too much detail, 3-4 million people fight for the best vantage points for the fireworks show, so finding an affordable and available spot (and commuting to and from that spot) is a nightmarish task for both locals and tourists. If you'll be in the city for the 4th and want a great view of the fireworks, we suggest hotels with rooftops on or near the west side of Manhattan, or searching for ticketed events along the water if you're in the mood to drop a little cash on the evening. If not, just know there are fireworks exploding in every part of the city that night – from Coney Island, to Prospect Park, to New Jersey, and so on – and you can have a great time without being up close at the main show!
